Cancer often takes years, even decades, to develop after a person gets HPV. Additionally, the types of HPV, which can cause genital warts, are not the same as the types of HPV that cause cancers.

(2009), HPV prevalence was found to be <25% in women with normal cytology, also, a total of 20 types were detected in women with normal cytology, and the number of detected genotypes decreased according to disease severity.
