Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Illinois Selects DuPage Senior Citizens Council For $20,000 Grant

Lombard, IL – July 2, 2021 – DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) received a $20,000 COVID-19 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) that will help provide needed meals to seniors in DuPage and Kane Counties. BCBSIL selected 175 other organizations across Illinois with missions focused on access to care, hunger, shelter and behavioral health care, and COVID-19 health education and vaccine access to receive $20,000 grants as part of its COVID-19 Community Collaboration Fund.

“Since COVID, more seniors than ever before need assistance from DSCC”, said Marylin Krolak, Executive Director of DuPage Senior Citizens Council. “And we rely on the generosity of local businesses, individuals and grants so we can provide those services”. This grant comes at atime where donations are significantly down.”

The grant helps fund DSCC’s 5-pack meal program which gives seniors a week’s worth of frozen meals at one time. Volunteers pick up the meals at the corporate offices of DSCC and then deliver them to seniors who have signed up to receive meals. There will be two deliveries every month between July and September.

Krolak added, “Donations have been down since COVID which has affected some of the services we provide to seniors who need us. Without donations and grants, services are affected and that hurts seniors.”

The grant allows DSCC to continue with programs that fight malnutrition and food insecurity. “When organizations partner with DSCC, the seniors who count on us won’t have to worry about their next meal and we can do what we do best”, Krolak adds.
