High School Rodeo Champs To Compete In Lincoln July 18-24

1,700 of the world’s best high school rodeo athletes will compete to become world champions at the National High School Finals Rodeo, which will be held at the Lancaster Event Center (LEC) Fairgrounds from July 18-24. 

“These talented young teenagers come from all over the world, representing 43 states, 5 Canadian provinces, Mexico, and in non-COVID years from Australia and New Zealand as well.” said Amy Dickerson, LEC Fairgrounds Managing Director, “Each athlete has been perfecting their skills with early mornings in the dirt, clocking thousands of hours of grueling practice, travel and competition. And now, with the world watching, they’re ready to show you what they’re made of–right before many go pro.”

There will be 13 rodeo events and 2 shooting events at 13 rodeo performances over 7 days:

Rodeo events: 

  • Bull Riding

  • Bareback Riding

  • Saddle Bronc Riding

  • Tie-down Roping

  • Breakaway Roping

  • Steer Wrestling

  • Goat Tying

  • Pole Bending

  • Barrel Racing

  • Boys Cutting

  • Girls Cutting

  • Reined Cow Horse

  • Queen Contest


Shooting events:

  • Trap Shoot

  • Light Rifle


Most rodeo events will take place in the newly built 3,500-person covered grandstands at the LEC Fairgrounds. Spectators will be able to view multiple rodeo performances occurring simultaneously in two outdoor and two indoor open-air arenas. 

Advance-priced ‘All Performance Wristbands’, which provide entry to all of the rodeo performances each day, are on sale now online at NHSFRLincoln.org through July 14. Advance price for adults (13 & up) is $110, children (5-12 years) is $55, with children 4 and under free. Starting July 14, All Performance Wristbands will be $130 for adults and $65 for children. 

Individual performance tickets will be available at any of the three arena gates 90 minutes before each performance: $15 for adults, $10 for children.

Spectators are encouraged to buy tickets online in advance or to come early as all performances are subject to sell out.

  • Sunday July 18, 7 pm

  • Monday July 19, 9 am & 7pm

  • Tuesday July 20, 9 am & 7 pm

  • Wednesday July 21, 9 am & 7 pm

  • Thursday July 22, 9 am & 7 pm

  • Friday July 23, 9 am & 7 pm

  • Saturday July 24, 9 am

  • Saturday July 24, 7 pm (the final world championship round!)

“Plan to make a day of it, if not two, by coming early or staying late to explore the Rodeo & Horse Expo–the region’s largest Western-themed expo. Admission to the Expo is free. Plus, enjoy food from the vendors ranging from comfort food to international cuisine,” said Dickerson.
