Conni Ponturo’s Focus is Taking Care of the Brain and the Body

Woodland Hills, CA, USA – July 7, 2021 – Conni Ponturo of Absolutely Grounded and Absolutely Pilates Upstairs is targeting brain health and physical health as she continues to use exercise to increase her clients’ mental and physical health. As people return to normalcy after COVID, Ponturo aims to maintain the positive effects of exercise on people.

The brain is the most critical organ in the human body; without it, all else would cease to function. The brain also regulates the emotional responses and reactions to stressors, and exercise is essential to maintain both mental health and neuroplasticity. An article in the 2021 Primary Care Companion to the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry says, “Aerobic exercises … have been proved to reduce anxiety and depression. These improvements in mood are proposed to be caused by exercise-induced increase in blood circulation to the brain and by an influence on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and, thus, on the physiologic reactivity to stress.” Moreover, a 2019 study from the University of Palermo in Italy suggests that there is “increasing evidence suggests that PA, largely due to factors released by contracting muscles, can improve brain functions, such as memory and attention, in both children and adults.”

Ponturo kept clients moving through the pandemic with daily doses of health sent to their phones to keep them moving and active, plus her online virtual Pilates mat and membership site. For Ponturo, movement is crucial to everyone; the physical benefits are fantastic, but the mental effects are even more valuable. Ponturo says, “I love science and reading up on the latest health findings; these two doctors happen to be my favorites, Dr. Daniel Amen – Change your brain, change your life, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta – Keep Sharp build a better brain at any age, both leading doctors in brain health. They both say the same things; that you can increase brain power and cells by movement, and all movement is good, running, swimming, cycling, walking, Pilates, yoga, Zumba, all of them give you an immediate return for your body and brain.” As people return to her pilates studio, Ponturo reminds people to find their own joy with their bodies and their minds, that starts with positive body movement.
